TFAH Addresses STOP Obesity Alliance Discussion on Obesity and Health Reform
Washington, DC -Trust for America's Health (TFAH) will address the STOP Obesity Alliance discussion on how obesity should be addressed in forthcoming healthcare reform.
Obesity costs rose to $147 billion in 2008 and accounted for an estimated 9.1 percent of annual health care spending. The forum will bring together diverse health care organizations to discuss best practices and call for action.
Jeffrey Levi, PhD, Executive Director of Trust for America's Health (TFAH) will address the group. The Alliance will release a concise set of obesity-specific recommendations developed by consensus from its membership to help guide policymakers' efforts to effectively address obesity.
Among other experts, the following former Surgeons General will speak:
- David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D. FAAFP, FACPM, FACP, the 16th U.S. Surgeon General and the Alliance's Health and Wellness Chairperson,
- Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th U.S. Surgeon General
What: A press conference and discussion hosted by the STOP Obesity Alliance, with TFAH and two former Surgeons General, announcing America has reached tipping point on obesity. The STOP Obesity Alliance will issue recommendations to ensure health reform successfully addresses the obesity epidemic.
