Sharing Cancer Data is Vital

During my tenure in the U.S. Senate, I was proud to help strengthen America’s commitment to medical research. That included helping launch our nation’s war on cancer in 1971...Our state is second to none when it comes to collecting cancer information. In fact, a recent study by the Washington-based Trust for America’s Health gave Oregon a grade of A. However, despite Oregon’s standing, we could be doing more to address new, preventable cases of cancer. According to Trust for America’s Health, Oregon and other states could improve cancer prevention efforts if we more effectively combined the data we compile about cancer rates with other information sources to better understand risk factors and possible causes of cancer.
