Think globally, act locally or watch antibiotics fail

Step 2: Realize we're all in this together. We all benefit when antibiotics work. When they fail, we all suffer. We all pay, too, some of the tens of billions in extra expenses that resistant infections saddle on our nation's health care costs.

Yet the Trust for America's Health found in 2013 that Wisconsin, like 32 other states, scored just a five (out of 10) in its capacity and policies to protect against threats from superbugs and other infectious disease. Declining public health budgets and outdated systems were cited as reasons for the low scores.
