Childhood obesity on rise; health risks can carry into adulthood

At Husmann Elementary School in Crystal Lake, students learn about a “go” food – something that should be eaten as often as possible, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Then there are “slow” foods. These should be eaten often, but not every day, such as canned fruit in a light syrup. Students also learn about “whoa” foods, something for special occasions, such as whole milk and soda.

It’s all part of the Coordinated Approach To Child Health, or CATCH, a program started at the school with the help of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
