Don’t raid ‘Healthy Maine’ fund

There’s a saying here in Maine — although it’s probably commonplace anywhere the “old ways” are still remembered and observed: “Don’t eat the seed corn.”
Our Native American forebears knew the seed corn was their future — that saving it was essential for survival. No matter how hungry they got in the winter, they knew if they ate the seed corn, starvation would surely follow as there would be no more corn to harvest that next fall.
