Kansas Government Staffing levels

Budget will require state departments to function without optimum manpower

A national report on public health noted earlier this week that the state's staffing was inadequate to handle a possible pandemic flu outbreak.

We're in no position to refute, or endorse, the report. But we do know the staffing situation at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment isn't likely to change anytime soon.

KDHE officials are well aware of the budget picture and aren't expecting, to their credit, any additional funding despite the report - "Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health from Diseases, Disasters and Bioterrorism" - released Tuesday by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
